The Intelligence Service (IS) is the civilian foreign intelligence agency of the CFS government.
It is rumored to be used as a front for the Japanese Intelligence Agency when it is conducting "false flag" operations. "False flag" operations are Human Intelligence activities where the true identity of the agency recruiting and/or running a spy or other intelligence asset is concealed, and the identity sold to the asset is that of another government or agency.
There is no information about the state of the Intelligence Service following the overthrow of the CFS government by Japanese Imperial Marines loyal to Colonel (later Protector-General) Keiji Saito in 2061 and the subsequent formation of the California Protectorate. There is also no information on whether, if any, the IS held its allegiance to Colonel Saito or the Japanese Imperial State.
