Patterson's Guide is a common informal reference to Paranormal Creatures of North America: Awakened Animals by Dr. Paterson.
In addition to the dangerous species excerpted on Shadowland in 2050, the Guide also covered a large number of more benign species including: metacows, metahummingbirds, and metasilverfish.
Patterson's Guide inspired Paranormal Animals of Europe by Charles Spenser, Professor of Parabiology, University of Oxford, U.K., which was itself excerpted on Shadowland in 2053.
